New Season of Beach Bites!
I’m so excited that the new season of Beach Bites is here! My first episode is this Thursday, June 7th, and I’m kicking things off on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. It was my first time to the region and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had never really thought of Mississippi as a beach destination. Well, let me tell you, I LOVED it! I visited the towns of Biloxi and Ocean Springs. The beach goes on for miles and the food has so much soul. I met so many wonderful people too – true Southern hospitality. It just goes to show that there are so many beach towns to explore right here in the U.S.
Here are a few highlights from my trip. Just like last season, I’ll be doing an Instagram Live during every episode of Beach Bites. So watch along with me and send me your questions and comments, every Thursday night on Cooking Channel at 10 pm EST.
The chef at The Blind Tiger took me out fishing on his boat one afternoon. I wasn’t so lucky at catching fish, but luckily he had been out earlier that day. We grilled fish on the deck of the restaurant at sunset.
I always have fun with my crew when we are out on the road. Blake Swerdloff (left) and Chris King (right) keep me very entertained!
I found Pop Brothers right on the sand and cooled off with one of their pineapple jalapeno ice pops. They have so many delicious flavors – it was hard to choose (so I had two! Vietnamese coffee for my second.)
The gumbo at Mary Mahoney’s is world famous with good reason. They ship it, so if you can’t make it to Mississippi, the next best thing would be to order some to your home.
One of the best meals I have ever eaten on the history of filming Beach Bites was at Nana J’s. The family-run restaurant serves soul food and just thinking about the pork chops makes my mouth water.
If you’re planning a trip to the Biloxi area, I recommend staying at the White House Inn. It’s right across the street from the water with great views, as well as large modern rooms and a bar with the best happy hour in town.
