Travel Guide : Miami
Miami is at the top of my list for a quick winter escape from New York. I have spent quite a bit of time there over the years and these are some of my favorite spots.
Bobby Flay first told me about the sandwiches at this small family-operated café in Little Havana. Over Cubanos, guava pastries, and café con leches, chat with the young owner about how he is updating traditional recipes, or start a conversation with the local businessman or police officer sitting next to you. It’s a great spot to get to know the locals and what day-to-day life is like there.
Cecconi’s at Soho House
I love to stay at the Soho House in Miami Beach and I always make sure to stay in at least one night and have dinner at Cecconi’s. I’m crazy about their pastas and pizzas, which change according to the season. Bonus: if you’re hanging out on the beach and don’t want to come in, they’ll bring a pizza right to your chair.
Joe’s Stone Crab
A trip to Miami without a meal at Joe’s Stone Crab is incomplete. The stone crab is the obvious must, but also go for the fried chicken and chopped steak as well. Neither is on the official menu, but both are available if you ask! Save room for key lime pie, too. If you can’t make it to Miami, Joe’s ships their stone crabs and pies right to your front door.
Le Tub
Take a drive about 30 minutes up the coast to Hollywood, Florida for the best burgers at Le Tub. Each burger weighs in at 1/3 pound and passes my ultimate burger test – when I take a bite, the juices drip down my arm. Ice cold beer, burger, and sitting right on the water… doesn’t get any better!
